Purpose: To guide career progression

Cognizant of the PPST, particularly Strand 1.2 on Research-based Knowledge and Principles of Teaching and Learning, I seek to clarify the eligibility of research-focused trainings for recruitment, selection, and appointment of teaching positions. The PPST clearly mandates teaching progression in research, emphasizing that research is a foundational skill that directly influences all other PPST domains and is integral to advancing the art and science of teaching. In light of these standards, I would like to formally inquire if capacity-building trainings focused on research (e.g. methods, procedures, data analysis, action research, etc.) are considered compliant and may be credited towards the training requirements for the RSA of teaching positions, especially for higher teaching positions of Teacher II to Master Teacher V. If these trainings are not credited, it may inadvertently discourage teachers from developing the very competencies that the PPST identifies as crucial for enhancing teaching quality. Therefore, confirmation on this matter would greatly assist teachers in aligning their professional development plans with the requirements for career advancement as envisioned by the PPST. Thank you.
