I am pleased to inform you that your FOI request has been approved. Below is the response from the DOH Health Facility Development Bureau (HFDB) on your request for the Retention and disposal of medical records in hospitals
The Department of Health through Department Circular No. 2021-0226 dated May 31, 2021 provides the revised Approved Records Disposition Schedule (RDS) for health facilities. In this circular, in-patient health records are set for a 10-year total retention period before disposal while outpatient health records are set for a 7 year total retention period after the last consultation.

Additionally, Rule 7.2 Article III of NAP General Circular No. 1 or the Rules and Regulations Governing the Management of Public Records and Archives Administration provides that all government agencies and instrumentalities shall not dispose of their records earlier than the period indicated for each record series. On the other hand, the records may be retained for longer periods if necessary.

Your right to request a review
