On COVID-19 Vaccines Preventing Transmission of the Virus
The Department of Health continues to enjoin every individual to get their primary doses and booster shots as protection against COVID-19 infection.
As per the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (US CDC), COVID-19 vaccines are proven effective at protecting people from getting seriously ill, being hospitalized and dying. In fact, vaccination is considered the safest strategy for avoiding hospitalizations, long-term health outcomes and death. Additionally, the US CDC recommends that getting vaccinated against COVID-19 is safer and more reliable way of building up immunity and protection against the disease.
In addition, the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that individuals should get vaccinated as this provides strong protection against serious illness, hospitalization, and death. Some evidence also shows that being vaccinated would decrease one's possibility of passing the virus on to others, thus providing additional protection to other people as well.
Despite COVID-19 vaccines being highly effective in preventing COVID-19 disease and it's transmission , it does not mean that vaccinated individuals would not harbor the virus. Thus, we always remind the general public that despite the gradual easing of restrictions, we remain steadfast in our commitment to work together in fight against COVID-19 through the observance of our minimum public health standards which include the maximizing of natural ventilation and open spaces, avoiding closed, crowded and close-contact settings if possible, regular hand washing and disinfection , and observing respiratory etiquette especially in public areas, among others.
