Dear Ms. Anika Bance:

You requested for the following: “(1) Number of abandoned elderly in Region IV-A and NCR (from 2010-2019), (2) Number of abandoned elderly in Cavite (from 2010-2019), (3) Number of indigent elderly in the country (from 2010-2019), and (4) Number of abandoned/neglected elderly that has been served by DSWD (from 2010-2019).”

Unfortunately, the DSWD only has complete information regarding number (4). We have partial information for numbers (1) and (2), limited only to those abandoned elderly who are staying in DSWD Centers and Institutions. Thus, we shall partially grant your request and we shall refer your request with respect to these matters to the proper DSWD office/s.

As for the other information you requested, under Republic Act 10625 (the “Philippine Statistical Act of 2013”), the Philippine Statistics Authority is the government agency responsible for preparing and conducting periodic censuses on population, housing, agriculture, fisheries, business, industry and other sectors of the economy. The PSA may have the data you need regarding statistics on the elderly. Hence, you may wish to direct your request on numbers (1), (2) and (3) to the PSA by submitting a request to the PSA via this portal. You may also contact the PSA by telephone at 462-6600 locals 839, 833 and 834 or via email at

Very truly yours,

Carlo Florendo C. Castro
