1. Are there any reports/secondary analysis conducted to determine the proportion of patients that are currently using lipid lowering therapies such as statins/ezetimibe/PCSK9i? If yes, what were the results? (May be surmised from question number 18 of 8th NNS Form 7.4, Booklet 7C - Clinical and Health Questionnaire Adults, 20 years and over)
2. Are there any reports/secondary analysis conducted to measure lipid control? What is the proportion of patients with dyslipidemia that are uncontrolled (borderline to high cholesterol) despite statin/ezetimibe/PCSK9i use?

Dear Bernadette Joy Almirol,

Thank you for your request dated Nov 05, 2021 03:46:20 PM under Executive Order No. 2 (s. 2016) on Freedom of Information in the Executive Branch.

Your Request

You asked for National Nutrition Survey.

Response to Request

Your FOI request is approved. I enclose a copy of [some/most/all] of the information you requested.

An in-depth study on the “Association between socioeconomic status, selected NCD risk factors, and the prevalence and treatment of hypercholesterolemia among Filipino adults” were completed in 2020. The manuscript for its publication is still being prepared.

The study population comprised of adults with complete data on lipid profile, fasting blood sugar, blood pressure measurement, anthropometric measurements, and other NCD risk factors (n=16,274).

In this study, the prevalence of hypercholesterolemia, based on the cholesterol level of 240 milligrams per dL or more or intake of lipid-lowering medications, such as statins, among adults, 20 years old and above was 19.3%. However, the majority of these adults (17.8%) with high total cholesterol were also untreated or those not receiving/taking lipid-lowering medications but with high total cholesterol levels.

Specifically, there were very few adults, who were taking statins at the time of the survey, with 1.0% having total cholesterol level of below 240 mg/dL with the intake of any lipid-lowering medication (controlled) and 0.43% having a high total level of cholesterol level and intake of lipid-lowering medication (uncontrolled).
