November 29, 2018
Dear Nikki Milad,
Greetings!
Thank you for your request dated Nov 15, 2018 06:11:28 AM under Executive Order No. 2 (s. 2016) on Freedom of Information in the Executive Branch.
Your Request
You asked for Expanded Maternity Law of 2018.
Response to Request
We would like to inform you that both the Senate and the House of Representatives have reconsidered the ratification of the Bicameral Conference Committee Report on the Expanded Maternity Leave bill on November 12 and 13, 2018 respectively. This means that both houses of Congress would again review and approve the consolidated bill. The Senate consequently approved the new consolidated bill on November 14, 2018 while the House of Representatives approved it on November 19, 2018.
After this ratification by both houses of Congress, the signed copy should be transmitted to the Office of the President for action. Only then could the President decide on whether to approve the proposed law or not. An approved law generally takes effect after a specified number of days from publication. As of the moment, there are no updates from Congress whether the proposed law is already transmitted to the Office of the President.
For quick reference as to updates on status of the bill, you may visit the link http://senate.gov.ph/lis/bill_res.aspx?congress=17&q=SBN-1305 and click the “ALL INFORMATION” tab.
