Hi! I'm a 5th-year architecture student and currently taking up my thesis about Micro-housing. May I ask what are your thoughts about making shipping containers as an innovative housing for socialized and economic subdivisions?

"Dear Ms. Obiano:
I am writing in reply to your query dated November 13, 2019 regarding your thesis about Micro-Housing and use of shipping containers as innovative housing for socialized and economic subdivision. Shipping container structures are a highly controversial architectural proposition. Container Housing may have a potential, however there are some considerations and I hope you will also try to research it further.
1. Availability of quality containers
a. Are you considering new containers or reusing old containers which are commonly used in foodparks?
2. Handling, transportation and delivery
a. Equipment requirements for transportation and installation methodologies.
3. Structural issues
a. Integrity especially for multi-story design proposal.
4. Adaptability and flexibility in design
a. How will you address thermal insulation.
b. Treatment to corrosion
c. Maintenance issues
d. Construction technologies and connections to be used.
I hope that I have answered some of your questions. Should you require any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me at our office at 929-5850 or email me at nhahttrd.hdd@gmail.com
