Thank you for your request dated Oct 01, 2022 06:48:07 PM under Executive Order No. 2 (s. 2016) on Freedom of Information in the Executive Branch.

Your Request

Response to Request

Your FOI request is approved.

Good day. Thank you for your interest in Mental Health. This is in response to your eFOI request , on the information on Statistics and Mental Health Illness and Suicide Cases for the Philippines. We hope to address your request as best as possible. Please refer to the Mental Health Program posted in the DOH website at for an overview of the services we provide.

To answer your query, the Department of Health is awaiting the results of the National Survey for Mental Health and Well-Being (NSMHW) which will provide the prevalence of mental health conditions in the country. We are also yet to set up an integrated national Suicide Registry system but data on suicide attempts and deaths may be obtained from the Philippine Health Statistics (classification of cause of death as suicide, accidental poisoning, other accidents and undetermined injury), or through police and hospital records but these are not yet consolidated, meaning we will have to validate and check from them.

In the meantime, we would like to share with you the Mental Health Atlas 2020 (attached) as reference to provide a global estimate of suicide cases. Sharing also our country profile as of 2017 at You may access the regional office directory here, and directly ask the regions/Centers for Health Development (CHDs) that may have the data you are looking for, or ask them about specific facilities that may have the data.

If you require further information or clarification, feel free to contact me through the Mental Health Division email ( Thank you very much!
