You asked for Food Technology Research and Product Development Facility.

Response to Request

Your FOI request is approved. I enclose a copy of [some/most/all] of the information you requested.

For Space planning checklist for food technology and product development facility / Guidelines in designing food research laboratory and innovation facilities

Space requirement is dependent on the nature and type of food being developed, number of laboratory-scale equipment, and no. of personnel working in the food product development laboratory;

The facility must adhere to the principles of current Good Manufacturing Processes (cGMP) and good hygienic practices (GHP) to ensure food safety and avoid risks of contamination. You may refer to online references of cGMP and GHP. The cGMP will also provide you with a checklist of specific requirements for food processing facilities. We adhere to these guidelines too;

There should be a smooth flow of operations from raw material preparation to end product storage/distribution;

There must be separate rooms for different activities of food product development but must be interconnected for the smooth flow of one activity to the other. i.e. food product development laboratory, physicochemical analyses Laboratory, sensory evaluation laboratory, and pilot-scale production facility;

Food facility areas must have a high level of sanitation, sterility, and safety; hence must provide spaces for sanitation; and

Must ensure proper room humidity and temperature suitable for food product development (space for proper ventilation is also covered by cGMP)
