Dear Ms. Cruz,

Thank you for your request dated May 20 ,2023, under Executive Order No. 2 (s. 2016) on Freedom of Information in the Executive Branch. You are requesting the current status of the study on Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) as  cure for CoVid-19.

The Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD), a sectoral council under the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), is mandated to: (1) formulate policies, plans, programs, projects, and strategies for health S&T development; (2) program and allocate government and external funds for research and development (R&D); (3) monitor R&D projects; and (4) generate external funds.

With regards to your inquiry, the study on the mechanism of action of Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) against CoVid-19 is currently ongoing. Please note that for all research conducted on Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO), it is used as a supplement or adjunct therapy only to the primary treatment of CoVid-19.
