Dear Joan Grace Rosaldo,

Greetings!

Thank you for your request dated Oct 10, 2018 11:09:50 AM under Executive Order No. 2 (s. 2016) on Freedom of Information in the Executive Branch.

Your request

You asked for Guidelines and Restrictions for a Marine life Research Center.

Response to your request

This in connection with your request for information on marine research center guidelines, marine biodiversity statistics of Batangas and the whole country, and the number of clientele using the center. Our office (ERDB) has no marine research center, but we are currently providing inputs to the operational plan and research agenda for the national coastal and marine research center of DENR in Snake Island, Honda Bay, Palawan. The Biodiversity Management Bureau of DENR is finalizing the plan as the lead agency for the research center establishment. Information on marine biodiversity is also available at the aforementioned office. For biodiversity information specific to Batangas, you may inquire at the Batangas State University as they might own a marine laboratory in support to the Verde Island Passage protected seascape. We hope that you were able to communicate with De La Salle University as they also have a marine research station somewhere in Lian, Batangas. They may also have completed research initiatives within the Batangas Area.

Our office has various laboratories designed for chemical and DNA analyses, taxonomic identifications, and reference collections. However, the majority of samples submitted for analyses are coming from land-based research activities. Please be informed that you are very welcome to see the research-related facilities in our office.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
