Dear Carlo Constantino,

Greetings!

Thank you for your request dated May 02, 2023 02:33:53 PM under Executive Order No. 2 (s. 2016) on Freedom of Information in the Executive Branch.

Your Request

You asked for Pitcher Plant Name.

Response to Request

Thank you for recognizing the Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau (ERDB) as the source of information for your inquiry. This is in reference to your inquiry on Freedom of Information Web Portal dated May 02, 2023. The pitcher plant species that can be found in the Makulilis peak of Mt. Malindig, Marinduque is the Nepenthes sibuyanensis Nerz. This is based on a news article in 2021 where supposed hikers were photographed posing and taking wild flora on the mountain, including the said species, that went viral on social media.

The N. sibuyanensis Nerz is an endemic pitcher plant species in the Philippines. This species prefers ultramafic soils and grows scattered on grassy slopes without much direct sunlight and is distinctively hidden on the ground. N. sibuyanensis Nerz usually occurs at altitudes 1500m- 1800m ASL. Nevertheless, it is important to note that the habit described by Nerz et al. (1998) is solely on the population found on Sibuyan Island. Further studies on its distribution and ecology are still deficient. Based on DAO No. 2017-11, or the Updated National List of Threatened Philippine Plants and their Categories, the species is classified as Critically Endangered which means that the species is at extremely high risk of extinction in the wild in the immediate future.

We still have limited information about N. sibuyanensis. With this, you may try to contact CENR Offices of Marinduque and Romblon for more information and possible

If you are not satisfied with the result of the review, you then have the right to appeal to the Office of the President under Administrative Order No. 22 (s. 2011).

We would also like to asked for a little bit of your time to kindly fill up our survey form located in this link : https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd4WLv3utJH431glkbNf15A9-PaQtAiyIUf-qjiriU_pzRV3Q/viewform?usp=sf_link

It contains our performance in handling your request, because your feedback is important to us.

Thank you.

Respectfully,
